These are our top 10 favorite day trips from Zürich to take when family or friends come to visit. These are all kid tested and Grandparent tested, so they are easy day trips for all ages.
I think the very best day trip for people who have never been to Switzerland is to do the Golden Round Trip.

Nice ideas for a day trip Kate ?
Once with the SBB Tageskarte, I did a one day trip in April to Bellinzona with the kids. We visited the castles, one playground and Piazza Colleggiata by foot (although you can take the Trenino- turistic train) We still had time and energie and went direction Locarno to Ascona! Lots of gelato, pastries and capuchinos in the meantime?
Another time, also with SBB Tageskarte, I went to a friend to Lausanne for coffee and lunch. Then both to Montreux and Château Chillon.
But of course, if you are going there for the first time and want to explore the places, a weekend is the best option?

I recently started a job in Zurich and am now commuting between Geneva and Zurich (and sometimes Lausanne). I have yet to discover Zurich and its surroundings, so thank for these tips!

I would definitely put Rapperswil on my list. The lovely town, the lake and the Kinderzoo!
Not a one day trip but certainly list-worthy: Zermatt! Same goes for Ticino: Locarno, Ascona, and many other gorgeous locations to explore!
You are absolutely right about Rapperswil! We love taking the boat there. It’s absolutely gorgeous. I’ll have to add that to my day trips. We go there so often I forgot about it!
