The Perfect Sunday Brunch For Visitors
Sprüngli Sunday Brunch
Sprüngli is the all around winner for Sunday Brunch in Zürich. It’s famous, it’s central, and it’s family friendly. It is perfectly located at the Paradaplatz on the famous Bahnhofstrasse shopping street. There is no shopping to be done on the Bahnhofstrasse on a Sunday, so brunch is one of the only options. I love to take visitors here.
In the heart of Zürich’s Paradaplatz, overlooking the famous shopping street Bahnhofstrasse, upstairs is the Sprüngli Sunday Brunch Buffet. Easy to get to, famous for their chocolate and macarons, and family friendly with a busy bustle yet a fabulously Swiss experience. I love to take visitors here for their hot chocolate. And I love to take my kids here for Sunday Brunch.
Especially for Kids
My kids walk upstairs, hang up their coats, get seated, and head straight for the Sunday Brunch Buffet. They get fresh fruit juices, macarons, tiny desserts, chocolate truffles, bread, meat, fruit, cheese and cereal. Included in the brunch is an egg cooked however you like. My daughter declined an egg last week and they offered her french toast instead. They eat the Sunday Brunch Buffet and my husband and I order off the menu. This works out much cheaper.
The waiter should bring your kids pencils and paper to color with, but if for some reason they don’t, there are a lot of free postcards at the cashier and you can keep your kids busy writing postcards to family and friends.
Practical Tips with Kids
There is a little known changing table and bathroom upstairs from the regular bathrooms on the restaurant level. Walk past the bathrooms and coat hangers and take a right at the coffee bar through the wooden door and go up the stairs. You will see the wheelchair access bathroom complete with changing table. You are welcome! I can’t tell you how many times I changed Liam at one brunch the other day. I think I was up there 5 times!
We leave our stroller downstairs as the chocolate shop is not open on Sundays. You will likely see a bunch of prams at the bottom of the stairs.
Food
My husband and I order off the regular menu. My new favorite thing is the two poached eggs, avocado and tomato on toast. It tastes like bruschetta and is really filling. We always order the famous Sprüngli hot chocolate. You can’t come here and not order it.
Make a Day of it
Sprüngli is the perfect location to get anywhere in Zürich before or after Sunday brunch. We love to walk up to the view at the Lindenhof after Sprüngli. Or we wander through Rennwegg to the Niederdorf (Old Town) area of Zürich and stroll around. We always make our way to Vi-Cafe in Bellevue or Rennweg for the best coffee in Zürich before going to Sprüngli for brunch. Remember that nothing is open on Sundays so be prepared for a good walk around without the crowds. There’s always a first time in Zürich on a Sunday. It’s an experience.
