Family Friendly Canton Vaud
Bonjour!
Our family of 5 explored the family friendly French speaking Canton Vaud last weekend. We ate lunch amongst cows, sailed along in a historic boat, walked along lakes, and picnicked above a roaring river and caves. In our weekend away, we found Vaud to be entirely family friendly. Although next time we will definitely make time to stop at some of the most famous vineyards in Switzerland.
Lac de Joux
We stayed along this lake for the weekend and it was beautiful to walk morning and night. Never crowded, it is a relaxed and quiet lake with views to the mountains beyond.
Juraparc
Our kids loved Jurapark. It is a small and easily walkable outdoor petting zoo and wildlife trail. We spent some time feeding goats, seeing bunnies, guinea pigs, alpacas, and chickens, before setting off on the trail above the bison, bears, and wolves. My kids also loved the playground, gift shop, and restaurant, so there is definitely something for everyone.
Les Croisettes
If you ever find yourself near L’Abbaye in Vaud, make sure to stop at this amazing Highland Cattle farm that serves up its fresh farm raised beef in a casual family friendly atmosphere. My husband ordered steak and he cooked it himself on a portable grill the waitress brought over. We never saw our children as the playground is so fantastic that they were very busy playing the whole lunch. And I was mesmerized by the gorgeous stone wall that reminded me of our road trip through Scotland last summer. Whether you eat inside or outside, this is a must stop while in Vaud.
Grottes de Vellorbe
We hiked the beautiful river valley up to the caves at Grottes de Vellorbe to have a picnic. We found a corner above a bend in the river to have our picnic filled with local fish, cheese, meat, bread, wine, and chocolate from the Vaud region prepared by Au Petit Marche. The smoked fish was my favorite, well, besides the local wine. My husband loved the cured sausage. My kids loved the chocolate of course.
