Easter Egg Hunt- Swiss edition
Heike’s playgroup had an Easter egg hunt this afternoon. It was full on Swiss and we loved it. Her playgroup is made up of 3 and 4 year olds (Kindergarten starts at 5). We arrived at the meeting spot where we were told there would be a 15 minute hike to get to the egg hunting area. We wandered through the gorgeous forest, uphill, past all the new baby lambs. I could hear Julie Andrews singing “The hills are aliiiiiiive” as we were hiking. When we arrived at the clearing, there was a fire going, as per usual Swiss activity for children. I remember when we first arrived in Zurich, being shocked that 4 years olds walked to school by themselves. And even more surprised that those same 4 year olds also walk in the forest each week at school, make a fire, and roast sausages. At 4?! My American mind thought this was crazy, and dangerous, and….incredible. Would we be doing this with the girl’s school in Seattle, or London? Do I love this because I grew up on a farm and drank water from the garden hose? I’m not sure, but I love the Swiss childhood. Today is a good day. Plus, baby lambs! Happy Spring!
