Day Trips From Zurich For When You Have Visitors
Wondering what to do when your friends and family visit you in Zurich? I am! We have a lot of visitors this summer (very exciting!) and we are planning our day trip options out for them to choose. We have family staying with us as well as in hotels, so we need family friendly and train friendly day trips.
Here are 10 easily doable family friendly day trips from Zürich (so about 2 hours or less on the train from Zürich HB). Also, these are all day trips that are easy to do by train. When you have a lot of guests, you won’t fit in your car, and going by train is far more relaxing and fun to do with a big group. Plus, no potty breaks!
Two of these places we have not yet been to and I’m hoping to go with our visitors this month and report back. These three are on every bucket list and are the perfect length for a day trip with family.
10 Best Day Trips From Zürich For Visitors
The Golden Round Trip- Lucerne is 47 minutes from Zürich HB
This one is a full meal deal. If you have one day only with visitors in Zürich, I would choose this day trip. It includes a train, boat, and the steepest cogwheel railway in the world. It’s easy for all ages, no hiking necessary, and amazing views from the top of Mt Pilatus.
Walensee– 51 minutes to Mühlehorn from Zürich HB, but make sure to check the ferry schedule before you plan your train trip.
Stein Am Rhein– 1 hour 21 minutes from Zürich HB
Rhine Falls– 55 minutes from Zürich HB
Aescher Wildkirchli– 2 hours and 22 minutes from Zürich HB
Bellinzona– 1 hour 39 minutes from Zürich HB
Locarno– 2 hours 23 minutes from Zürich HB
Einseideln– 46 minutes from Zürich HB
Lugano– 2 hours 8 minutes from Zürich HB
I am very excited about visiting this gorgeous Ticino town on Lake Lugano with family and friends this month. I’ll update with my post here once we do the day trip. But for now, take a look at what Rick Steve’s says about Lugano.
St Gallen– 1 hour from Zürich HB
I have not tried this day trip to St Gallen, but am looking forward to seeing the UNESCO world heritage site Abbey Of Saint Gall and their library with books from the 9th century.
There are plenty of wonderful day trips to do by train from Zürich. We are excited to try a few new trips this summer. And here is a list of all 11 of Switzerland’s UNESCO world heritage sites (I just took a look at the list and Old Town Bern is listed. That is a very easy day trip. Maybe we will fit that in this month as well).
