Colmar, a perfect day trip
Colmar is such a great day trip from Zurich. Just two hours in the car and you are in the wonderfully beautiful Alsace wine region in France. My Dad came to visit in May and we took a Sunday drive with the girls to Colmar and enjoyed all it had to offer. We parked right in front of the St. Martin’s Church, fed the meter, and enjoyed our day. The colorful houses and beautiful old architecture were a welcome departure from our village in Zurich. There are many outdoor cafe’s lining the squares with beautiful views. The girls ran around while we enjoyed our outdoor café lunch in a church square.
After lunch, we wandered the cobblestone streets filled with colorful houses, looking in trinket shops, bakeries, and through the beautiful churches. A highlight was the little train tour through town. We toured the city in a 30 minute train ride. Colmar had a few playgrounds as well as little rocking horses strategically placed where a kid might get restless. My favorite spot was Little Venice, which reminded me of our recent April trip to Venice with my Dad. We hope to do another day trip this month and bring a case or two of the Alsatian wine home with us!
