Best Ice Skating Spots in Zurich
The 3 best ice skating spots in Zurich as chosen by my girls. Yesterday we met friends at the Bellevue Christmas Market for lunch before the Marlitram. The kids all wanted to ice skate and we were not disappointed.
We went ice skating at the Bellevue Christmas Market yesterday located at the Opera House in the Bellevue Christmas Market. It’s like a one stop shop for everything Christmasy. The market has lots of wonderful food to choose from and the Opera House is so gorgeous to look at while we slowly made our way around the rink with our little skaters. (Candle making at the Burkliplatz is even an easy 5 minute walk away and it’s right across the street from the Marlitram)
2. ETH Polyterrasse
The ice skating rink at ETH Polyterrasse has the most incredible views over the rooftops of Zürich. Also, the warmup hut is absolutely adorable with all your Glühwein, brunch and raclette needs.
3. Dolder
Dolder has the best facilities as it boasts itself as the largest ice rink of its kind in all of Europe. And it is humongous. The centerpiece is the Christmas tree in the center of the rink. There is a lot of space to sit down and put on your skates and big lockers inside to stow your things while you skate. With ample seating around the rink for weary skaters or Grandmas visiting from South Africa to take great photos of her grandchildren. It is a fantastic place to ice skate. Set high on a hill next to the famous and historically gorgeous Dolder Grand Hotel. If you are lucky you can sneak a hot chocolate break there before heading home.We love Dolder and went many times last year. But this year, the Bellevue Christmas Market and ice skating rink is my absolute favorite. Food and fun? My two favorite things. We will be frequenting these three great rinks in the next few weeks and see which the girls like the best.
Each rink has ice skates and balance animals to rent along with free helmets. We usually bring the girls ski helmets with us. Waterproof mittens are a must as their little hands get so cold gripping the balance animal and skating. Last year we used the stretchy kind and that did not work out very well. Layer up and take hot drink breaks. Hot chocolate for the kiddos and Glühwein for the adults. Ice skating magic.
