Our Barcelona Sweet Tour
We spent four indulgent nights in Barcelona as if we were on a Barcelona sweet tour through the gorgeous old Roman walled Gothic quarter. We landed in Barcelona and I had absolutely no idea where to eat. I didn’t even know where to go for a cappuccino. This was our first time visiting the city. Why is there so much pressure to have really good food when in a food capital of the world? After asking the world of Instagram, we had plenty of wonderful options and set out on the town. Do you ever feel that way? Truth be told, I was a bit tired and hungry after flying to Chicago for a week and full of jet lag. I just wanted to fall into a super easy place to eat.
So of course the only way to cope was with churros and chocolate, obviously. Barcelona is known for this delicious dipping delicacy so we were on the hunt for the very best. The first place we tried had the most amazing drinking chocolate, wonderful service, in the cutest old café. But I did not LOVE the churros. So I asked our food tour guide for the best churros in Barcelona. And he delivered. He sent us to the shop that supplies Barcelona’s cafés with their churros. This place is a take away churros shop. We took ours to go and wandered the beautiful streets of the Gothic district.
Oh the Gothic district. We stayed in a flat right in the center of the Gothic district and I am so glad we did. This area is like a land of sweets! Besides the best churros, there are so many cute cafés, chocolate shops and patisseries.
We loved Patisseria La Colmena based on my friend’s recommendation of Heike’s favorite sweet, meringue. It is an enormous sweet shop known for their handmade hard candies they make. They have all sorts of absolutely gorgeous sweets. I loved Caelum, located on the most beautiful corner with a window looking at all their amazing cakes. It’s a gorgeous cozy tearoom with all their cakes made in monasteries and convents. This is the perfect location for an afternoon cake and tea.
We walked through so many areas of Barcelona. I will definitely come back to stay in the Gothic quarter again. It was the most gorgeous part of the city, had an amazing food festival going on, and had absolutely incredible sweets.
