Kinderhotels- Why I Love Them
We love Kinderhotels
Our family just got back from our 5th year in a row at a Kinderhotel for the February holidays. I have come a long way from my first review on our week at a Kinderhotel 5 years ago. Our first time visiting I was not sure it was the perfect holiday for us. But after this last week, I think it might have been exactly the holiday we needed.
Is it right for your family? Yes. And here is why:
(PS, this post is not in any way affiliated or sponsored. It is just me being a tired mom of three living a 10+ hour flight from my parents and wanting to have a relaxing and fun holiday for each member of our family)
All Inclusive Food, All The Time
If you have jet lag, a fussy toddler, or a baby, the restaurant is always open. You can always get coffee, fruit, and snacks in between the regular meal times. And during meal times, there is literally something for everyone.
Activities
There is just too much to choose from. One day I wanted to spend a couple hours on my bed in my room alone reading my book. But with the beautiful view outside, our friends we traveled with, the swimming pool, spa, gym, horse riding, sledding, skiing, and missing my own kids, I felt guilty sitting by myself reading. But you know what? I went to the bar and read there. A happy middle ground right?
Drinking For Everyone
At 15:00 every day, the drinking starts. There are all inclusive drinks for all hotel guests, alcoholic and non alcoholic, kids and adults alike. Just like I mentioned in #1, there is food at all times. And you can get a coffee, juice, pop, and tea anytime from the restaurant. But at 15:00 the bar is open, which has a casual relaxed family vibe. Some people play board games, some read, some play card games, etc. So I took my book to the bar and ordered some all inclusive Austrian wine. Next to me were my kids, ordering their kids cocktail. So I was glad that I came to the bar. My kids were spending 5 minutes hydrating before going back to the trampoline again.
No housework!
A week without doing dishes. I have died and gone to heaven. People constantly taking my plate, my kids plates, my glass. Oh, its just so nice. They are so friendly. And if your kids soak through all their clothes, there is a big laundry room to use.
Kids Club
They have a kids club all day long. And they have fun activities all day long. One day I was in the gym and I watched my toddler playing in the snow in the outdoor playground with a bunch of other kids from the kids club. It was fun to keep an eye on him even while I was doing my own thing. And after a week at the kids club, my toddler has added a lot of new German words to his vocabulary.
Here are the Kinderhotels we have stayed at the last few years:
We have been to Kinderhotel Buchau in Austria three times, 2015, 2016, and 2020.
We stayed at Martinhal Chiado, Cascais, and Sagres in Portugal in 2018 and 2019. For winter sunshine, beaches, ocean, and a city break, I would return to Martinhal in a heartbeat. I absolutely love Martinhal Chiado for a city break. The apartments are beautifully decorated and perfectly located in Lisbon. I would also highly recommend Martinhal Sagres. We stayed in an Ocean Villa which was absolutely amazing!
Kinderhotel Almhof in Austria was gorgeous, modern, and chic.
There are so many wonderful ways to travel this world with our family. I hope to write a blog post about all the wonderful AirBnBs we have stayed at over the years. And the truth is that we love having a place that feels like home instead of a hotel. But sometimes, living so far from both of our families, and being a bit exhausted and tired, and sometimes traveling without my husband makes Kinderhotels the perfect solution.
