Day Trip to Stein am Rhein
Stein am Rhine is the perfect day trip from Zürich complete with gorgeous painted frescoes and picturesque town center. This was the perfect place to take my mother in law for a quintessential European medieval town experience. Come here for a leisurely wander through the two small cobbled streets in the old town, find a place to enjoy a meal, gelato and cappuccino, enjoy the river, then be on your way.Only an hour’s drive from Zürich, this two street town is full of beautifully colorful buildings with gorgeous painted frescoes. There is a gorgeous fountain in the center of the colorful main street in old town, a focal point for pictures, meetups, and tourist pit stops. This is not a crowded place like Colmar, at least not while we were there on a Saturday in June.
We ran into our neighbors (hilarious, right?!) who were cycling the Rhine River as a family, then taking a boat to a hotel and restaurant for the night. There is a bike rental shop right next to the fountain in the center of town. With so many options on the Rhine River, we want to come back and cycle here a bit and if we get tired we can take the boat back. I love all the transportation options. We are already planning our next day trip as we did not get to visit the playground and badi with a delightful café I heard from friends on Instagram. If you want a tiny beautiful town that is easily walkable and relaxed without crowds, come to Stein am Rhine. Also, make sure to pair this day trip with a stop at the famous Rhinefalls. Have you been to Stein am Rhine?
