Day Trip to Rhinefalls
Rhinefalls is absolutely spectacular right now with all these weeks of rain. Such an easy day trip from Zürich at about an hour’s drive. We took my mother in law to see the falls after we stopped in Stein am Rhine on Saturday. We have been here many times, and it is spectacular every time. This is a great place to bring visiting friends and family. Rhinefalls is the largest plain waterfall in Europe. Pretty cool day trip, right?!
We parked in the large lot and bought our tickets (5chf for adults, 3chf for kids, kids under 6 are free). We have also seen the falls from the playground on the other side of the Rhinefalls but to get up close and personal, the entrance fee is so minimal and the short walk to the base of the falls is wonderful and easy enough for our girls and their grandparents. After we paid, the girls headed to the cows (plastic cows to climb on) and the playground. There is a café, gift shop, and some food trucks before entering the Rhinefalls. Once inside the ticketed entry, it’s a 15-30 minute walk to the falls and back for different viewing points and photo ops.
After the amazing view, we went back to the entrance and grabbed cappuccinos and snacks at the café. They have the standard ice creams, coffees, sausages, and pretzels expected in Switzerland. There is a lot of outdoor seating to eat while our girls climbed cows. (Sounds weird to write…)
Rhinefalls is a great day or afternoon trip from Zürich. It’s quite easy to park, buy a ticket, and see the falls. The other option is to park on the other side at the other playground and see the falls from there. This is a great place to take people visiting Switzerland.
