Day Trip to Mount Rigi

Mount Rigi is a wonderful and easy day trip from Zürich, perfect to take visiting family and friends. The views are spectacular with little to no effort. We drove to Vitznau which is a little gorgeous town on Lake Lucerne. We bought tickets to the cogwheel train and stopped for a coffee next door while we waited for it to arrive. We took the steep cogwheel train up the mountain to Rigi. Along the way are absolutely gorgeous views of Lake Lucerne and the surrounding area. My girlfriend swears by staying at Rigi Kaltbad which is the stop just before the top of Rigi. It was a summer day, but very overcast. We underestimated our outfits and ended up buying the girls some long sleeved sweatshirts as it was freezing when we reached the top of Rigi. We ate lunch at the restaurant at the top of Rigi, but there is a much cheaper place to eat right when we got off the train that has plenty of options and a gift shop. We wandered around after lunch and saw some amazing views of Lake Lucerne and lots of animals. 

This is a wonderful and easy day trip to take family and friends visiting Zürich. We drove to Vitznau and took the train up to Rigi. I can’t wait to go up again soon and hopefully on a gorgeous blue sky day. Next time I’ll check the webcam before venturing up. Or maybe next time we can stay the night at Rigi Kaltbad.
