Barcelona Food Lover Tour with Kids
We had the most amazing food tour in Barcelona with Josh from Food Lover Tour. I chose a private tour, which was a charge of 60 Euros which was totally worth it.
It was fantastic to learn about the food culture in Barcelona which is so different from Switzerland and the USA. I can honestly say that we would have walked past 90% of the food we tried. But having an expert guide us through all the amazing delicacies helped us learn about Spain and the foods that they value. I feel like we learned so much more about Barcelona on this tour than we ever could have learned otherwise. We met Josh and walked to the most traditional market in Barcelona. Josh walked us around and introduced us to all the local delicacies as well as gave us a background into the culture of markets in Barcelona. We had some samples and then sat down for fresh fish at Perello. This was my favorite part of the tour. Perhaps it was the white wine, or the bar stools, or just sitting down with my family in the middle of a large market full of fresh fish (reminded me of my hometown and Pike Place Market…).
Grabbing some duck eggs for our meal. Heike loved seeing all the fish. There was SO MUCH fish! After our fish tapas, we went to a few shops at the market to collect fresh ingredients. Josh then took us to La Falconera to sit down and have the chefs create a delicious meal out of all the market finds. My favorite moment was when Josh put a whole bowl of little green peppers on our table and told us only 1 in 20 is a hot pepper. Heike then ate 22 peppers trying to get a hot one! It was hilarious. And surprisingly she did not end up with an upset tummy! She tried so many new foods, she’s just might be the most adventurous eater in the family. In the end, our tour guide Josh got the one and only hot pepper.
The food tour was so much fun. We felt completely off the beaten path. There were no crowds or tourists. We got to chat and learn all about the history, culture, and incredible food of Spain. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Barcelona. Josh was kid friendly and a great guide. The tour was 65 Euros per person and half price for the girls. Well worth the three hours, market walk, two meals, samples, and wine.
After all that savory tapas, of course we needed to go on our own Barcelona Sweet Tour. Oh the churros and chocolate!
